Perfectionism Won’t Get You Where You Want To Go

Perfection Won't Get you Where You Want to Go

Don’t think you have to be perfect before you start a new task or enterprise. Everyone starts somewhere. So start wherever you are right now.

How to kill perfectionism

I have found that perfectionism and procrastination are two sides of the same coin. They are, in fact, twins. We frequently delay in tackling a task, we say, because we want to make sure that we doing everything perfectly. However, deep down inside, we have to come to terms with our own self-doubts and lack of confidence.

Think about whether you hesitate when it comes to something you know that you’re good at. When we excel at an activity, we jump right in. If the activity is something that plays to our strengths, there is no reluctance to start. To overcome your hesitation, you first need to acknowledge your fears and face them openly. Then you can dispel them as you take bold, massive action toward your dreams.

How to let go of perfectionism

A lot of people want to know how to stop perfectionism. Well, when you have a goal which is simply too big to ignore, you can stop perfectionism in its tracks. When your motivation is great enough, you will move forward.

Consider what you would do if I asked you to walk on a high wire 20 feet in the air with no safety net. You probably wouldn’t do it. But if your child was in danger and walking on that same high wire was the only way to save them, you would. You don’t need to be perfect to take action. You just need to have something important that you want to achieve.

You Can Beat Perfectionism

Don’t put off starting your business because you don’t have all the answers. It’s ok not to know everything when you start, but you need to get started. Napoleon Hill, author of “Think and Grow Rich”, said, “Don’t wait. The time will never be just right.”

You must start with the tools at hand. As you require them, more tools will be made available to you. I understand that you might be a little fearful as you approach starting your own internet business. That’s understandable. You are stepping out of your comfort zone, but don’t let perfectionism stop you from accomplishing your goals.

Everyone has to start somewhere. One good example is a heart surgeon. I bet the now-esteemed cardiologist was a little bit hesitant when she did her first quadruple bypass operation. But she had confidence in her training and knew that the only way she would develop her skills and build confidence was to start doing it. And if you needed her in an emergency, you wouldn’t be worried about what her GPA was in medical school.

Examine your passions. What do you truly want to achieve in your lifetime? That may be just the place for you to begin your new business. Of course it is usually beneficial to have a record of achievement in some area – in academics, in athletics, in service to others, or in the arts – because that indicates that you have a history of discipline towards reaching your goals. But you definitely don’t need to be an expert business person before you start to grow your business.

Let me help you overcome procrastination so you can begin succeeding in your business and in your life. Remember, perfectionism is the enemy of accomplishment.
